Medal of Honor recipient Charles Coolidge dies

CHATTANOOGA: Tennessee Steel of Honor recipient Charles H. Coolidge has died. He was 99.
Coolidge died on Tuesday in Chattanooga, the Congressional Medal of Honor Society introduced in a press release.
Coolidge obtained the Medal of Honor for actions he took in October 1944 throughout WWII. He was assigned to 2nd Platoon, Firm M, 3d Battalion, 141st Infantry Regiment, thirty sixth Infantry Division within the US Military.
A German infantry attacked the heavy machine gun unit in France and with no officer current, Coolidge assumed command. Over three days, Coolidge uncovered himself to enemy hearth to encourage and assist others and his management enabled the group to cease repeated assaults, the society mentioned. On the fourth day, Coolidge was capable of lead the boys to an orderly retreat when their place was overrun.
He obtained the Medal of Honor on June 18, 1945.
After his Military service, Coolidge returned to Tennessee and labored for the Veterans Administration earlier than shifting into the household enterprise, Chattanooga Printing and Engraving.
